Carrots contain a lot of beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A (beta-carotene).

Vitamin A has many functions 
It is important for vision, skin, skeletal formation and stamina. Vitamin A is obtained by dogs from the liver of their prey. Egg yolks, fish oil and milk are also good sources of vitamin A. A long-term deficiency of vitamin A can cause night blindness, dry and flaky skin, a dull coat and even blindness. A dog also becomes more susceptible to all kinds of diseases and the power of reproduction declines. In principle, vitamin A is not made by the body itself, but must be obtained from the diet. However, the dog can make vitamin A itself in the liver from carotene (provitamin A) which includes carrots and spinach.
